Zippo Hand Warmer

May 9, 2011

If you’ll be spending any extended time outdoors this winter, keep your hands extra warm with one of these cool new Zippo Hand Warmers. Unlike a Zippo lighter, these rugged, metal hand warmers produce radiant heat safely without a flame for up to 12 hours – up to 10X as much heat as disposable warmers. Just fill with regular lighter fluid, ignite the platinum-catalyzed glass fiber burner on top, replace the lid and place it in the included fleece pouch. Its sleek and compact design fits easily into pockets, gloves and pants and is a great way to stay warm while hunting, camping, skiing, hiking, working construction, snow shoveling, enjoying outdoor sporting events and more.

ALIENS M41A Pulse Rifle

May 3, 2011

I wanna introduce you to a personal friend of mine. This is an M41A pulse rifle. Ten millimeter with over-and-under thirty millimeter pump action grenade launcher.” – Corporal Dwayne Hicks, Colonial Marines

In space, nobody can hear you scream, but if you’re a Colonial Marine carrying a standard issue M41A Pulse Rifle, it doesn’t matter. This futuristic 22nd century infantry weapon featured in the Alien Anthology [Blu-ray] is now available to you way ahead of its time. This officially licensed prop replica is 100% faithful in detail and size to the original M41A Pulse Rifle used in the movie. It features a light up LED ammo counter display that sets at “95″ when the removable magazine is inserted, a moving grenade launcher pump handle, a metal collapsible shoulder stock and metal barrel vent, accurate “Brown Bess” colored aluminum shrouds and includes a themed wall display plaque complete with replica stock number.

If for some reason this doesn’t wipe out those nasty, acid drooling xenomorphs, you can always just nuke the site from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure!

Sony Ericsson Officially Unveils Xperia Play

February 21, 2011

Xperia Play is essentially the Playstation Phone which has been rumoured for months. The Android device is first and foremost a smart phone, but has a heavy focus on gaming.

Sporting Android’s Gingerbread operating system, the device will feature a 1GHz Snapdragon processor with an embedded Adreno GPU graphics processor. A four inch capacitive multi-touch screen can be pushed up to reveal a certified Playstation controller, complete with dual analog sticks and trigger buttons, something which has been missing on smart phones to date. The company claims the graphics are silky smooth with true HD games running at 60 frame per second. Multiplayer gaming will also be a key feature on the device.

At this point it appears all games will be downloaded. The phone itself will have 400MB of on-board memory and a microSD memory card which can support cards up to 32GB. Obviously battery life will be a concern. Sony Ericsson claims you will be able to get a solid 8 hours worth of talk time on the device with 425 hours of standby. If you plan on doing a lot of gaming, then you can expect about 5.5 hours worth of joy before running for the charger.

20 publishing partners will be supporting device at launch including Electronic Arts, Gameloft and Glu Mobile. This means some huge titles are expected including Guitar Hero (not quite dead yet), Assassin’s creed, Battlefield and Dead Space, all optimized for the device. In fact, 50 titles are expected at launch including some well known classics from Sony Computer Entertainment. Xperia Play is expected to launch in just a couple of weeks. Sony Ericsson claims the US will get first dibs with Verizon getting exclusive first rights. Other markets are expected to follow shortly after. Rogers will have exclusivity in Canada in “spring of 2011″. Price has not been confirmed at this point. props

Engadget Catches iPad 2 Case at CES

January 23, 2011

The first iPad 2 case has peeked its head above ground at CES. The case is even sporting a mockup iPad 2 model, giving us a chance to see what the next piece of hardware might look like.

As you’ve no doubt guessed, there are dual cameras, supporting the FaceTime platform of course. It’s also interesting that the current generation iPad wouldn’t fit inside the new case because the new model will actually be a bit slimmer. The case Engadget found also had a fairly large speaker cutout. The home button has also moved a bit closer to the bottom edge, which could mean a slighter slimmer bezel.

You can read all about the original find and see more pictures at Engadget.

Star Wars Tauntaun Sleeping Bag

April 4, 2009

This nifty Star Wars Tauntaun sleeping bag from ThinkGeek comes “complete with saddle, internal intestines and glowing lightsaber zipper pull — built-in embroidered Tauntaun head pillow.” It started out as an April fools prank, but might be released sooner than later. “Due to an overwhelming tsunami of requests from YOU THE PEOPLE, we have decided to TRY and bring this to life. We have no clue if the suits at Lucasfilms will grant little ThinkGeek a license, nor do we know how much it would ultimately retail for.”

Samurai Sword Handle Umbrella

March 9, 2009

“Fight the Rain

The rain falls softly.
The samurai draws his sword.
Look, an umbrella.

Either we just made it up, or that Haiku dates to around the 14th century. It is a little known fact that Samurai also carried umbrellas. Much as they later had to disguise their swords as canes, so they disguised their umbrellas as swords. In fact, there was one skilled umbrella maker who all the Samurai relied on for their Sword Handle Umbrellas. His name has been buried in the sands of time, but his plans have been preserved. And now, it is with great pleasure that we offer to you, the Samurai Sword Handle Umbrella.

Glide it out of its nylon sheath. Hold it by its space-age plastic handle. Feel the balance. This is the umbrella you never knew you always wanted. No one will mess with you with this slung across your back, and even the rain will shudder when you pull it out. For, apart from looking unbelievably awesome, the Samurai Sword Handle Umbrella is a dang fine umbrella. It will keep you dry and the envy of your friends. Precipitation doesn’t stand a chance. ”
